Scott Volume Meter, Scott Apparent Density Tester
Model: MZ-101
Principle:
MZ-101 Scott volume meter, also known as powder loose density tester, uses the Scott volume meter method to determine the loose density of metal powder. In the funnel method, metal powders that cannot flow freely through a funnel with an aperture of 5 mm and metal powders whose characteristics are easily changed by the vibrating funnel method can be measured with this instrument for their bulk density. This instrument complies with the international standard ISO 3923/2 [Determination of the bulk density of metal powders-Part 2: Scot volumetric method].
Measuring principle: Put the powder on the screen in the upper combined funnel, flow into the cloth box naturally or by external force, alternately pass through the four glass plates and the square funnel with an angle of 25° in the cloth box, and finally the powder flows in in a loose state. In a cylindrical cup with a known volume (25cm3), then weigh the mass of the metal powder in the cylindrical cup, and divide the mass of the powder by the volume of the cylindrical cup to get the loose density value of the powder.
Instrument composition:
Feature:
1. Stainless Steep top funnel: it is composed by two pcs Stainless Steel Conical funnel, separate by the cylinder, inside with the opening size 1.18mm Stainless Steel sieve;
2. Clothing box: cross section is square shape, there are 4 pcs 1 mm thick Stainless steel board slide on the Aluminium frame inside; Inside and outside frame, there is Plexiglas plate, Stainless steel board can take off, it is easy to clean and wash
3. Square shape funnel: it is welded by 1mm Stainless Steel board, angle is 60° square conical shape, upper dia. is 12.5mm×12.5mm;
4. Cylindrical receiving cup: volume is 25ml, Stainless steel, net weight is 46±1g;
5. Steel frame: it holds upper assembly funnel, clothing box, square funnel, cylindrical receiving cup;
6. Balance: it weights powder sample, maximum capacity is 1kg,accuracy is 0.02g (optional parts)
Note: The cylindrical cup and all funnels are made of non-magnetic, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant metal materials, generally brass. In order to prevent deformation and excessive wear, it should have a certain thickness and hardness, and the inner surface of the cylindrical cup and funnel should be polished.
Sampling instructions:
1. When determining the bulk density of each metal powder, a sample of at least 100cm3 volume should be taken and divided into three parts;
2. Usually, the metal powder is measured according to the receiving state. In some cases, the metal powder should be dried. But if the powder is easy to oxidize, it should be dried under the protection of vacuum or inert atmosphere. If the metal powder contains volatile substances, drying is not allowed.
Measurement operation:
1. Use a spoon to carefully put the metal powder on the screen of the upper combined funnel, pass through the cloth box and square funnel, and flow into the cylindrical cup. Until it is full and there is powder overflow;
2. If the powder cannot pass through the screen freely, use a soft brush to brush the metal powder through the screen. If it is invalid, the metal powder will not be used to determine the bulk density by the Scout volumetric method;
3. After the powder overflows from the cylindrical cup, scrape it with a stainless steel ruler. But do not compress or bring out the powder in the cup, let alone shake or vibrate the cup;
4. After the scraper, tap the cup lightly to make the powder sink to avoid scattering the powder during the shaking process, and there should be no powder on the outer surface of the cup;
5. Weigh the metal powder in the cylindrical cup to the nearest 0.05g;
The ratio of the mass of the metal powder to the volume is the bulk density, and the calculation formula is as follows:
In the formula: ρas ------The bulk density of metal powder measured by Skoket volumetric method, g/cm3;
m------the mass of metal powder, g;
v-------Volume of loose metal powder, cm3;
Take the arithmetic average of the three measurement results and report the final result, accurate to 0.01/cm3. When the difference between the three measurement results exceeds 1% of the average value, the maximum and minimum values shall also be reported along with the results.
